{"id":11,"date":"2011-04-17T05:47:54","date_gmt":"2011-04-17T05:47:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/?page_id=11"},"modified":"2020-03-28T15:30:32","modified_gmt":"2020-03-28T22:30:32","slug":"bernal-heights","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/branches\/bernal-heights","title":{"rendered":"Bernal Heights Living Library &#038; Think Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/category\/bernal-heights-living-library-think-park\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>Bernal Heights Living Library &amp; Think Park<\/strong> <\/em><\/a>serves children and youth from PreK through 5th grade, and has been funded by the <em>Department of Children, Youth, and their Families (DCYF)<\/em> since 2002. &nbsp;Gardens are located at <em><strong>Junipero Serra Child Development Center<\/strong><\/em> and<em><strong> Junipero Serra Elementary School<\/strong><\/em>, and operate on Mondays and Thursdays.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5430 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Bernal-JSerra.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1274\" height=\"598\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Bernal-JSerra.jpg 1274w, https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Bernal-JSerra-250x117.jpg 250w, https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Bernal-JSerra-1024x480.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1274px) 100vw, 1274px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left; margin-top: 20px;\" align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">Bernal Heights Living Library &amp; Think Park Nature Walk<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">In addition to the programs in place at the school sites in Bernal Heights, <em>Life Frames, Inc.<\/em> is working with the community to develop the <a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/category\/bernal-heights-living-library-nature-walk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>Bernal Heights Living Library Nature Walk<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, which&nbsp;links schools, parks, public housing, streets, and other open spaces leading to the currently hidden&nbsp;<strong><em>Islais Creek<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;at the south side of St. Mary&#8217;s Park.&nbsp; The&nbsp;<em>Nature Walk<\/em>&nbsp;is creating a new, expressive, narrative landscape that is a prototype for what could be occurring throughout the whole&nbsp;<em><strong>Islais Creek Watershed<\/strong><\/em>, the largest in San Francisco, that interlinks eleven neighborhoods:&nbsp; Noe Valley, Mission, Bernal Heights, Potrero Hill, Bayview, Portola, Crocker-Amazon, Excelsior, OMI, Sunnyside, and Glen Park.&nbsp; Funding for planting California native trees and understory shrubs for this project has come from the <em>California Department of Forestry<\/em> and the <em>California Strategic Growth Council<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5435 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Nature-Walk-Planting-1A.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1400\" height=\"522\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Nature-Walk-Planting-1A.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Nature-Walk-Planting-1A-250x93.jpg 250w, https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Nature-Walk-Planting-1A-1024x381.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5436 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Nature-Walk-Planting-2A.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1400\" height=\"520\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Nature-Walk-Planting-2A.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Nature-Walk-Planting-2A-250x92.jpg 250w, https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Nature-Walk-Planting-2A-1024x380.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">The&nbsp;<strong><em>A.L.L.
