As temperature drops and leaves fall, we enjoy these last few days outside before snow covers it all. A.L.L. Garden Instructor<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0China Bushell, <\/em><\/strong>in the\u00a0Roosevelt Island Living Library & Think Park<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>has been preparing the A.L.L. Gardens<\/em> for next spring with wonderful community participation of all ages: Harvesting, Composting and Planting for the next season with the help of school children and community residents.<\/p>\n

Adults & Youth Harvest in\u00a0Roosevelt Island Living Library & Think Park<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This year, harvest in the A.L.L. Gardens<\/em> included many vegetables, herbs, and fruits including: Tomatoes<\/strong>, Eggplant<\/strong>, Okra<\/strong>, Radish<\/strong>, Broccoli<\/strong>, Kale<\/strong>, Spinach<\/strong>, Lettuces<\/strong>, Kohlrabi<\/strong>, Pumpkins<\/strong>, Green Beans<\/strong>, diverse kinds of Squash<\/strong>, Peppers<\/strong>, Cucumber<\/strong>, Corn<\/strong>, Collard Greens<\/strong>, Basil<\/strong>, Sage<\/strong>, Thyme<\/strong>, Oregano<\/strong>, Lemongrass<\/strong>, and much more. Students and residents enjoyed picking the healthy foods they have grown while learning many aspects of Organic Gardening<\/strong>, and how to make plants grow and thrive in an urban setting.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Educating Students about How to Harvest & Prepare Garden for Next Spring<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Students from Roosevelt Island PS\/IS 217 Beacon<\/strong> and The Child School<\/strong> have been regular visitors to\u00a0Roosevelt\u00a0Island Living Library & Think Park Garden,\u00a0<\/i>learning about growing plants and the benefits of fresh and organic food from their beloved Ms. China<\/em>. An enthusiastic group of ninth graders from Rudolph Steiner School, New York City<\/strong> were among the latest visitors to the A.L.L. Gardens<\/em>\u00a0who helped in planting hundreds of daffodil bulbs and turned the compost.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Promoting Concept of Organic Gardening To Larger Community<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

A Living\u00a0<\/i>Library<\/i><\/span>, in conjunction with\u00a0RI Public Library\u00a0<\/em>has been organizing Free Organic Gardening Workshops<\/strong> throughout 2019, promoting the concept of Farm to Table<\/strong> and homegrown food devoid of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. Please join A.L.L. Garden Instructor China Bushell<\/em> for the last workshop of this year on Saturday, November 16, 2019<\/span> at Noon<\/span>.<\/strong>\u00a0Class begins in the Library and then moves to the A.L.L. Gardens.<\/strong> Stay tuned for more updates for Free Community Workshops in 2020. Thank you for a great 2019! \u00a0<\/p>\n
