{"id":10132,"date":"2019-12-12T14:52:10","date_gmt":"2019-12-12T22:52:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/?p=10132"},"modified":"2019-12-27T09:20:48","modified_gmt":"2019-12-27T17:20:48","slug":"update-on-dramatic-transformation-of-seneca-avenue-streetscape-into-ca-native-rain-gardens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/omiexcelsior\/update-on-dramatic-transformation-of-seneca-avenue-streetscape-into-ca-native-rain-gardens","title":{"rendered":"Update On Dramatic Transformation of Seneca Avenue Streetscape Into Ecological CA Native Rain Gardens"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Continuing with our earlier post on <a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/omiexcelsior\/update-transformation-seneca-avenue-streetscape-san-francisco\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Transformation of Seneca Avenue Streetscape in San Francisco<\/a>, we want to share more updates on the progress of this unique urban greening project by <strong><em>Life Frames, Inc. &amp; A Living Library.&nbsp; <\/em><\/strong>Seneca Avenue, between San Jose and Cayuga Avenues in the <em>Islais Creek Watershed,&nbsp;<\/em>has long been a wide, barren, long hill, contributing greatly to overflowing sewers and flooding in the <em>Cayuga Valley<\/em> and <em>Islais Creek Watershed.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10139\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_7014.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4032\" height=\"3024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_7014.jpg 4032w, https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_7014-250x188.jpg 250w, https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_7014-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 4032px) 100vw, 4032px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After cutting and removing tons of concrete from the site, the transformation of this former <em>heat island<\/em> into lush <em>CA Native Rain Gardens<\/em> has finally begun. Over 200 students from <strong>Leadership High School<\/strong>, as well as other community members, have actively participated in planting California native&nbsp; trees and understory plants on the site. Shown here are a few pictures documenting the dedicated hard work of the youth and adults in transforming this previously desolate space, into fertile, blue\/green, multifunctional native landscapes.
