Our Bernal Heights Living Library & Think Park<\/strong><\/em> at shared campus of Junipero Serra Child Development Center<\/strong><\/em> and Junipero Serra Elementary School<\/strong><\/em> has two new Learning Zones <\/strong><\/em>– an Organic Orchard <\/em>and California Native Learning Zone<\/em>, planted on Saturday, August 13, by a team of volunteers from San Francisco Rotary Club <\/strong><\/em>and Junipero Serra Elementary School PTA<\/strong><\/em>, led by Bonnie Ora Sherk<\/strong><\/em>, Founder and Director of Life Frames, Inc.,<\/strong><\/em> and A.L.L.<\/em> Instructor, Gregory Vose<\/strong><\/em>.  Many thanks to all volunteers, especially Rotary leader for this event, David Dye<\/strong><\/em>,  and also to Ron Walton <\/strong><\/em>and Recology<\/strong><\/em> for donating 30 cubic yards of great organic compost !<\/p>\n

Transforming two "dead spaces"<\/em> into vital outdoor classrooms, 20 trees were planted ! Very soon, our new Compost Bins<\/em> will be installed in the Orchard<\/em>, each Learning Zone<\/em> will have a Redwood Rail surrounding it for safety,and stairs will be built to enter the Orchard.  The Master Plan for the area was made by Bonnie Ora Sherk<\/em> of Life Frames, <\/em>funded by SFUSD.
\n\t<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

K-5 students from Junipero Serra Elementary School and Junipero Serra Child Development Center will enjoy and learn from these new additions to the campus through their hands-on, interdisciplinary, standards-based learning program delivered by A Living Library Teachers<\/em> and Life Frames<\/em>.<\/p>\n

This area with the other Living Library & Think Park Gardens<\/em> on site, and all the Native Oaks planted by students and Salesforce<\/strong><\/em> volunteers along the street in front of the School, are also part of the emerging Bernal Heights Living Library & Think Park Nature Walk<\/strong><\/em> underway, that is linking schools, parks, public housing, streets, and other open spaces in the neighborhood, leading to the Islais Creek at the south side of St. Mary's Park.  Already over 600 California Native Trees have been planted by children, youth, and adults, funded by California Department of Forestry & Fire Protection !<\/p>\n
