Help Develop Bernal Heights Living Library Nature Walk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In honor of <strong><em>Tu Bishvat<\/em>,<\/strong> the holiday celebrating trees and nature, young adults of the\u00a0<em><strong>Jewish Community Federation<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>worked diligently with\u00a0<em><strong>Life Frames, Inc.<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em><strong>SF Recreation &amp; Park Department<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>on Sunday, January 12th to plant California native plants\u00a0on the hillside next to the <em>Oak Allee <\/em>in<em> St. Mary&#8217;s Park<\/em>, as part of the\u00a0<b><i>Bernal Heights Living Library Nature Walk.\u00a0 <\/i><\/b>About <strong>200 natives<\/strong> were planted amongst the beautiful <em>Coast Live Oaks<\/em> (<em>Quercus agrifolia).\u00a0<\/em> The<b><i>\u00a0Nature Walk\u00a0<\/i><\/b>is growing<b><i>\u00a0!<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3087.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_3087\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3087-250x187.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"187\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3091.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_3091\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3091-250x187.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"187\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Volunteers planted all California Natives:\u00a0 Ceanothus (<em>Ceanothus griseus horizontalis\u00a0<\/em>&#8216;Yankee Point&#8217; and <em>Ceanothus<\/em> &#8216;Ray Hartman&#8217;), Coast Live Oak (<em>Quercus agrifolia<\/em>), Fremontodendron (<em>Fremontodendron californicum<\/em>), and Matilija Poppy (<em>Romneya coulteri<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3096.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_3096\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3096-250x187.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"187\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3098.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_3098\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3098-250x187.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"187\" \/><\/a><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3093.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_3093\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3093-250x187.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"187\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3094.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_3094\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3094-250x187.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"187\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em><strong>Bernal Heights Living Library<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Nature Walk<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>links schools, parks, public housing, streets, and other open spaces leading to the currently hidden\u00a0<strong><em>Islais Creek<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0at the south side of St. Mary&#8217;s Park.\u00a0 The\u00a0<em>Nature Walk<\/em>\u00a0is creating a new, expressive,\u00a0 narrative landscape that is a prototype for what could be occurring throughout the whole\u00a0<em><strong>Islais Creek Watershed<\/strong><\/em>, the largest in San Francisco, that interlinks eleven neighborhoods:\u00a0 Noe Valley, Mission, Bernal Heights, Potrero Hill, Bayview, Portola, Crocker-Amazon, Excelsior, OMI, Sunnyside, Glen Park.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3113.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_3113\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3113-250x187.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"187\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3115.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_3115\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3115-250x187.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"187\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>More volunteer events are coming up on <strong>January 17th and 28th<\/strong> <strong>at St. Mary&#8217;s Park<\/strong>, and <strong>January 18th at Holly Park<\/strong>.
