Forty-five, 6th Grade Students and their Teachers from the\u00a0Creative Arts Charter School<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>in San Francisco, joined Life Frames, Inc.<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0SF Recreation & Park Department<\/strong> in St. Mary’s Park <\/strong><\/em>on Friday, January 17th, to plant about 100 California native plants\u00a0in St. Mary’s Park<\/em>, as part of the\u00a0Bernal Heights Living Library & Think Park Nature Walk.\u00a0 <\/i><\/b>The students also learned about the Islais Creek, <\/i><\/b>the<\/i> Islais Creek Watershed, <\/i><\/b> <\/i>and did some weeding in the Nature Walk<\/em>.\u00a0 They accomplished much by their help, and the\u00a0Nature Walk<\/i> <\/b>is growing <\/i><\/b>!<\/p>\n

\u00a0Volunteers planted all California Natives:\u00a0 Matilija Poppy (Romneya coulteri<\/em>), Yarrow (Achillea spp.<\/em>), Douglas Iris (Iris douglasiana<\/em>), Sticky Monkey (Mimulus aurantiacus<\/em>), Ceanothus (Ceanothus<\/em> ‘Ray Hartman’), California Milkweed (Asclepias californica<\/em>),\u00a0Buckwheat (Eriogonum giganteum<\/em>), Penstemon (Penstemon<\/em>\u00a0‘Electric Blue’ & ‘Margarita Bop’), and Island Tree Mallow (Lavatera assurgentiflora<\/em>).<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Bernal Heights Living Library<\/strong>\u00a0Nature Walk<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>links schools, parks, public housing, streets, and other open spaces leading to the currently hidden\u00a0Islais Creek<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0at the south side of St. Mary’s Park.\u00a0 The\u00a0Nature Walk<\/em>\u00a0is creating a new, expressive,\u00a0 narrative landscape that is a prototype for what could be occurring throughout the whole\u00a0Islais Creek Watershed<\/strong><\/em>, the largest in San Francisco, that interlinks eleven neighborhoods:\u00a0 Noe Valley, Mission, Bernal Heights, Potrero Hill, Bayview, Portola, Crocker-Amazon, Excelsior, OMI, Sunnyside, Glen Park.<\/p>\n
