Volunteers from\u00a0One Brick<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>worked with Bonnie Ora Sherk<\/strong><\/em>, Director of Life Frames, Inc.<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0and Chief Landscape Architect of the Bernal Heights Living Library & Think Park Nature Walk, <\/strong><\/em>along with staff with SF Recreation & Park Department<\/strong> <\/em>on Saturday, January 18th, and planted drought tolerant California natives\u00a0at the Bocana Street Entrance<\/strong><\/em> to Holly Park<\/strong><\/em>, as part of the <\/i>Living Library Nature Walk<\/i>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/i><\/b>About 200<\/strong> colorful, California natives were planted around the Bocana Stairs <\/em>beautifying the whole area. \u00a0<\/em> The Living Libary Nature Walk <\/i><\/b>keeps growing\u00a0!<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Volunteers planted all California Natives: \u00a0Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia<\/em>),\u00a0Flowering Currant (Ribes sanguineum<\/em>), Yarrow (Achillea spp.<\/em>), Douglas Iris (Iris douglasiana<\/em>), Matillja Poppy (Romnya coulteri), Sticky Monkey (Mimulus aurantiacus<\/em>),\u00a0Red Buckwheat (Erigonum grande<\/em>\u00a0var.\u00a0rubescens<\/em>),\u00a0Penstemon (Penstemon spp.<\/em>), and Island Tree Mallow (Lavatera assurgentiflora<\/em>).<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Bernal Heights Living Library<\/strong>\u00a0Nature Walk<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>links schools, parks, public housing, streets, and other open spaces leading to the currently hidden\u00a0Islais Creek<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0at the south side of St. Mary’s Park.\u00a0 The\u00a0Nature Walk<\/em>\u00a0is creating a new, expressive,\u00a0 narrative landscape that is a prototype for what could be occurring throughout the whole\u00a0Islais Creek Watershed<\/strong><\/em>, the largest in San Francisco, that interlinks eleven neighborhoods:\u00a0 Noe Valley, Mission, Bernal Heights, Potrero Hill, Bayview, Portola, Crocker-Amazon, Excelsior, OMI, Sunnyside, Glen Park.<\/p>\n
