{"id":5315,"date":"2014-01-20T17:35:46","date_gmt":"2014-01-21T01:35:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/?p=5315"},"modified":"2014-02-05T16:00:46","modified_gmt":"2014-02-06T00:00:46","slug":"volunteers-one-brick-develop-nature-walk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/bernal-heights-living-library-nature-walk\/volunteers-one-brick-develop-nature-walk","title":{"rendered":"Volunteers From One Brick Help Develop Bernal Heights Living Library Nature Walk in Holly Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Volunteers from\u00a0<em><strong>One Brick<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>worked with <em><strong>Bonnie Ora Sherk<\/strong><\/em>, Director of <em><strong>Life Frames, Inc.<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0and Chief Landscape Architect of the <em><strong>Bernal Heights Living Library &amp; Think Park Nature Walk, <\/strong><\/em>along with staff with <em><strong>SF Recreation &amp; Park Department<\/strong> <\/em>on Saturday, January 18th, and planted drought tolerant California natives\u00a0at the <em><strong>Bocana Street Entrance<\/strong><\/em> to <em><strong>Holly Park<\/strong><\/em>, as part of the<i> <\/i><i>Living Library Nature Walk<\/i><b><i>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/i><\/b>About <strong>200<\/strong> colorful, California natives were planted around the <em>Bocana Stairs <\/em>beautifying the whole area.<em> \u00a0<\/em> The<b><i> Living Libary Nature Walk <\/i><\/b>keeps growing<b><i>\u00a0!<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3157.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_3157\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3157-250x187.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"187\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3161.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_3161\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3161-250x187.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"187\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Volunteers planted all California Natives: \u00a0Coast Live Oak (<em>Quercus agrifolia<\/em>),\u00a0Flowering Currant (<em>Ribes sanguineum<\/em>), Yarrow (<em>Achillea spp.<\/em>), Douglas Iris (<em>Iris douglasiana<\/em>), Matillja Poppy (Romnya coulteri), Sticky Monkey (<em>Mimulus aurantiacus<\/em>),\u00a0Red Buckwheat (<em>Erigonum grande<\/em>\u00a0var.\u00a0<em>rubescens<\/em>),\u00a0Penstemon (<em>Penstemon spp.<\/em>), and Island Tree Mallow (<em>Lavatera assurgentiflora<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/cropped2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"cropped2\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/cropped2-250x179.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"179\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/cropped.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"cropped\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/cropped-250x179.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"179\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The\u00a0<em><strong>Bernal Heights Living Library<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Nature Walk<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>links schools, parks, public housing, streets, and other open spaces leading to the currently hidden\u00a0<strong><em>Islais Creek<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0at the south side of St. Mary&#8217;s Park.\u00a0 The\u00a0<em>Nature Walk<\/em>\u00a0is creating a new, expressive,\u00a0 narrative landscape that is a prototype for what could be occurring throughout the whole\u00a0<em><strong>Islais Creek Watershed<\/strong><\/em>, the largest in San Francisco, that interlinks eleven neighborhoods:\u00a0 Noe Valley, Mission, Bernal Heights, Potrero Hill, Bayview, Portola, Crocker-Amazon, Excelsior, OMI, Sunnyside, Glen Park.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3169.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-5317\" alt=\"IMG_3169\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3169-1024x768.jpg\" width=\"630\" height=\"472\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3169-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_3169-250x187.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0More volunteer events are coming up !
