On Tuesday, January 28th, over 30 high school students and adults from Paraguay<\/strong><\/em> and Uraguay<\/strong><\/em> in the\u00a0\u00a0Amigos de las Americas\u00a0Youth Ambassadors Program<\/strong><\/em><\/strong><\/em> worked with Bonnie Ora Sherk,<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 Life Frames, Inc.<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0and SF Recreation & Park Department<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>to plant 175 California native plants in\u00a0St. Mary’s Park <\/em>near Alemany Farm<\/em><\/strong>, as part of the\u00a0<\/span>Bernal Heights Living Library & Think Park Nature Walk.\u00a0 <\/i><\/b>Much was accomplished during this productive day of planting, and the<\/span>\u00a0Nature Walk<\/i> <\/b>was helped in its growth and expansion<\/span> <\/i><\/b>!\u00a0 Everyone had a great time !

Volunteers planted all California Natives:\u00a0 Matilija Poppy (Romneya coulteri<\/em>), Ceanothus (Ceanothus<\/em>\u00a0‘Yankee Point’), California Flannel Bush (Fremontodendron californicum<\/em>), and Island Tree Mallow (Lavatera assurgentiflora<\/em>).<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Bernal Heights Living Library<\/strong>\u00a0Nature Walk<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>links schools, parks, public housing, streets, and other open spaces leading to the currently hidden\u00a0Islais Creek<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0at the south side of St. Mary’s Park.\u00a0 The\u00a0Nature Walk<\/em>\u00a0is creating a new, expressive,\u00a0 narrative landscape that is a prototype for what could be occurring throughout the whole\u00a0Islais Creek Watershed<\/strong><\/em>, the largest in San Francisco, that interlinks eleven neighborhoods:\u00a0 Noe Valley, Mission, Bernal Heights, Potrero Hill, Bayview, Portola, Crocker-Amazon, Excelsior, OMI, Sunnyside, Glen Park.<\/p>\n

The Youth Ambassadors<\/em> also helped arrange seating in the Redwood Circle<\/em> and learned about A Living Library<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n
