Bonnie Ora Sherk<\/strong><\/em> recently traveled to India, where she was invited to present A Living Library<\/strong><\/em> in two different cities – Udaipur<\/strong><\/em> in Rajisthan<\/strong><\/em>, and Ahmedabad<\/strong><\/em>, in Gujurat<\/strong><\/em> –\u00a0 by two different ecological groups:\u00a0\u00a0 Big Medicine Charitable Trust<\/strong><\/em> in Udaipur, and in Ahmedabad, by the Center for Environment Education<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

The <\/span>Big Medicine Charitable Trust<\/strong><\/em> in Udaipur led by <\/span>Rita Kubiak Dixit, Premilla Dixit Nag,<\/strong> <\/em>and <\/span>David Kubia<\/strong>k<\/strong><\/em> is undertaking large scale projects to help green this beautiful old City and bring it back to its more ecological roots.\u00a0 They are looking to <\/span>A Living Library<\/strong><\/em> and<\/span> Life Frames, Inc.<\/strong><\/em> to help them in this effort and would like to bring <\/span>A Living Library<\/em> to Udaipur.\u00a0 One of their strategies to engage more local residents and organizations around ecological issues and opportunities, is to present <\/span>Shakti Sundays<\/strong><\/em>, in which diverse artists perform, and others present work to a large group of interested citizens from the area. \u00a0<\/span>Shakti<\/em> means energy in Hindi.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the evening of March 2, as part of Shakti Sunday<\/em>, Bonnie Ora Sherk<\/strong><\/em> presented A Living Library, <\/strong><\/em>translated in Hindi by<\/strong> Premilla Dixit Nag.\u00a0\u00a0 A.L.L.<\/strong><\/em> was very well received.\u00a0 There is now great interest in developing a unique, place-based, Udaipur Living Library & Think Park<\/strong><\/em> in the area.\u00a0 Funds will need to be raised to realize this exciting opportunity.<\/p>\n

Bonnie Ora Sherk<\/em> traveled next to Ahmedabad<\/em> in Gujarat, India<\/em>, to the Center for Environment Education (CEE)<\/strong><\/em>, directed by Kartikeya Sarabhai<\/strong><\/em>, whom she met in Beijing in 2009, where they were both presenting at the 4th International Conference on Education for Sustainable Development<\/strong> <\/em>(ESD), sponsored by UNESCO<\/strong><\/em>, People’s Republic of China<\/strong><\/em>, and Beijing Academy of Educational Sciences<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

CEE<\/em>, the largest environmental group in India, has school programs and interpretation centers all over India and in other parts of the world. Their Main Campus in Ahmedabad, shown below, was originally a sand dune !<\/p>\n

Bonnie Ora<\/em> presented <\/span>A Living Library<\/em> to the large <\/span>CEE Staff<\/em>\u00a0 <\/strong>introduced by<\/span> Pramod Sharma,<\/em> <\/strong>Director of CEE’s School Programs<\/em>, and met with staff and later, Kartikeya,<\/em> to discuss ways of working together to promote ecological thinking and doing in India, the USA, and other parts of the world.\u00a0\u00a0 As a way to begin our collaboration, Life Frames<\/em> and CEE<\/em> will be linking A.L.L. students<\/em> from San Francisco and New York City with those from different cities in India, so they can learn about their diverse cultures and ecologies.\u00a0 Kartikeya Sarabhai<\/em> is also directing the global, <\/span>Earth Charter<\/strong><\/em> initiative underway now.<\/span><\/p>\n
