Think Park Nature Walk In Holly Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Students from the <em><strong>Bernal Heights Branch Living Library &amp; Think Park<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 based at <em><strong>Junipero Serra Elementary School <\/strong><\/em>and <em><strong>Junipero Serra Child Development Center<\/strong><\/em> joined\u00a0<em><strong>Life Frames, Inc., Bonnie Ora Sherk,<\/strong><\/em> and the\u00a0<em><strong>SF Recreation &amp; Park Department<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>in<em>\u00a0<strong>Holly Park\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>to plant California native understory plants at the <em>Appleton Entrance<\/em> and <em>Entrance across from Junipero Serra Elementary School<\/em>, as part of the\u00a0<b><i>Bernal Heights Living Library &amp; Think Park Nature Walk<\/strong><\/em> is linking multiple schools, parks, public housing, streets and other open spaces leading to currently hidden <em><strong>Islais Creek<\/strong><\/em> at the south side of <em><strong>St. Mary&#8217;s Park.<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 This <em>Nature Walk<\/em> is a prototype for what could be happening throughout the whole <em><strong>Islais Creek Watershed<\/strong><\/em>, the largest in San Francisco that links eleven neighborhoods in Southeast and Southwest San Francisco.\u00a0 Already thousands of native trees and understory plants have been planted and the whole neighborhood is being improved by this new, narrative landscape.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/4-IMG_6256.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"4-IMG_6256\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/4-IMG_6256-250x187.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"187\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/5-IMG_6257.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"5-IMG_6257\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/5-IMG_6257-250x187.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"187\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/6-IMG_6258.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"6-IMG_6258\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/6-IMG_6258-1024x768.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"675\" \/><\/a>The students planted drought tolerant California Natives including:\u00a0 Mimulus (Sticky Monkey), Romnya coulteri (Matilija Poppy), Penstemon, Douglas Iris, Yarrow, Aesclepius to attract Monarch Butterflys (native Milkweed), Lupin, Erigonum grand rubescens (Buckwheat), Ceanothus (California Lilac), Lavatera (Mallow),\u00a0 and other colorful natives !\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It really looks fantastic now !!!\u00a0 Please come and see for yourself !<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/7-IMG_6260.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"7-IMG_6260\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/7-IMG_6260-250x187.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"187\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/8-IMG_6263.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"8-IMG_6263\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/8-IMG_6263-250x187.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"187\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/9-IMG_6397.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"9-IMG_6397\" src=\"https:\/\/alivinglibrary.org\/archive-site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/9-IMG_6397-1024x768.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"675\" \/><\/a>Students learned how to plant from expert, John Miller, Park Supervisor from RPD, and about the <em><strong>Islais Creek Watershed<\/strong><\/em>, the largest in San Francisco, that interlinks eleven neighborhoods:\u00a0 Noe Valley, Mission, Bernal Heights, Potrero Hill, Bayview, Portola, Crocker-Amazon, Excelsior, OMI, Sunnyside, Glen Park.<\/p>\n<p>Design and Funding for the project, led by <em><strong>Bonnie Ora Sherk<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Life Frames, Inc.<\/strong><\/em>, which developed the <em><strong>Community Master Plan<\/strong><\/em> beginning in 2002, has come from <em><strong>Mayor&#8217;s Office of Community Development, SF Foundation, California Department of Forestry &amp;
