Climate change spurred by human activities has directly, negatively impacted plants and wildlife across the world. To cope up with increasing human population, forests are being cut down to expand cities and towns, or to burn as firewood for cooking.
The list of endangered and threatened species is increasing at an alarming rate and only our collective effort can save them from extinction.
Though urban and industrial activities are to be blamed for depleting forests and biodiversity, interestingly enough, our cities can contribute in conserving plant and animal populations.
Developing ecological landscapes with native plants can help create natural habitat for various species and address dire issues of climate change, even in large cities and towns. Implementing systemic blue/green design and infrastructure integrated with sustainable business practices and community education for all ages are important to move us towards conservation. Teaching youth and adults about the environment through hands-on ecological transformation and learning by doing, including inspiring them about green jobs and skills will ensure that we have a better future.
