Summer is going to end soon ! Before green leaves turn dry brown and red, here is an update about the work A Living Library  accomplished through the summer season in our Gardens in New York and San Francisco.

In the Roosevelt Island Living Library & Think Park Gardens in New York City, students from Roosevelt Island School Beacon (PS/ IS 217) enjoyed various garden activities while learning about science and ecology during their after-school classes. In Spring this year, during one of A Living Library classes with students from Junipero Serra Elementary School, we asked our young Eco-Stewards to write down their favorite activities in A Living Library garden. Develop Your Green Skills With A Living Library’s A.L.L. Green Futures Paid Summer Internship Program 2018

Summers are fun! Make that fun count through learning by doing and contributing to the environment while getting paid!

A Living Library invites applications from Middle and High School students for the A.L.L. Green Futures Paid Summer Internship Program. This unique program held at the OMI / Excelsior Living Library & Think Park, on Oneida Avenue (between San Miguel Early Education School and James Denman Middle School), and the Bernal Heights Living Library & Think Park Nature Walk based at St. Mary’s Recreation Center, mentors Middle and High School students to become A.L.L. Eco-Stewards and helps them gain real-world experience in green job skills, gardening, ecology, nutrition, cooking, creative arts, and sustainable business through integrated hands-on learning program.

At Open Engagement (OE) 2018 - an annual, itinerant, artist-led conference in its tenth year, Bonnie Ora Sherk was invited as one of the five panelists at the session  “The Power of Time : Social Practice Eco Artists of a Certain Age”, on May 13, 2018 at Queens Museum, New York. The 90-minute panel was led by Linda Weintraub, curator, artist and author of several popular books about contemporary art. This year, the Conference was themed around Sustainability, emphasizing the field of socially engaged art, and featured distinguished artist Mel Chin and writer, curator Lucy Lippard among others.  (more…)
